Clio 16v & Clio Williams
The Clio 16v, launched in 1991, introduced the F7P 1.8 L 16-valve engine producing 140 hp and capable of reaching 7,200 rpm. Compact and lightweight at 960 kg, it combined a short-ratio gearbox, sharp front axle and ventilated brakes for incisive handling. As the heir to Renault’s GTI models, it won enthusiasts over with its rev-happy engine and efficiency on winding roads.
In 1993, Renault Sport introduced the Clio Williams, a rally homologation version fitted with the F7R 2.0 L engine producing 150 hp. Its increased torque, wider tracks and specific chassis made it even more stable and more capable. With its gold Speedline wheels and 449 Sports Blue paintwork, it immediately became an icon.
Initially produced in 3,800 units, the Williams was later extended into Series 2 and 3 due to huge demand. It quickly proved itself in Group A and Group N rallying, confirming its sporting DNA.
Today, the Clio 16v and Clio Williams embody the golden age of French GTIs, combining style, mechanical character and a formidable chassis.
Two models that have become essential for Renault Sport enthusiasts and collectors.
