Technical development: This project required more than 18 months of research, analysis of manufacturer archives and direct comparison checks with a genuine period-new 200 hp camshaft.

Manufacturing process compliant with the original:

  • Foundry tooling entirely recreated
  • Heat treatment integrated during the casting process, not added later as a surface treatment such as nitriding
  • This process is crucial to ensure the reliability of the camshaft
  • Dual-material cam structure, as per the original design — see microscope cross-section
  • Differentiated hardness between the cam surface and the core, controlled directly during casting — an extremely complex process

Material & compatibility:

  • Cast iron strictly identical to the original Renault material
  • Compliant mechanical properties, adapted to the tappets: friction, hardness and long-term durability

Geometry and profile:

  • Original 200 hp profile — not reground
  • Base circle preserved
  • Valve lift obtained directly from the raw casting
  • Validated by cross-section analysis and comparison with a genuine period 200 hp camshaft

Fitting advice & recommendations

  • Do not confuse this camshaft with reground versions made from standard models: the base circle remains intact on our version, just like the original.
  • The use of a cast iron camshaft is essential for reliability: Hertz contact pressure, resilience and gear strength are only guaranteed with the original-type cast iron version.
  • Always check the camshaft end float and timing before starting the engine — procedure supplied.
  • A complete instruction sheet is supplied with each camshaft.
  • Suitable both for an original restoration and for a competition project faithful to the factory 200 hp configuration.
