Porsche 924

Presented in November 1975 and launched in 1976, the Porsche 924 opened a new chapter for the brand: initially developed for Volkswagen, it was ultimately taken over by Porsche and assembled in the former NSU factory in Neckarsulm.

Its great originality is its transaxle architecture: engine at the front, gearbox-differential at the rear, linked by a rigid tube, for near-perfect weight distribution and wonderfully precise handling. The 1,984 cc 2.0-litre four-cylinder, of Audi origin, develops 125 hp at 5,800 rpm.

The range then expanded with the 170 hp 924 Turbo (1978), followed by the explosive 210 hp 924 Carrera GT (1980), homologated for competition and entered at the Le Mans 24 Hours.

In 1985, the 924 S received the 944's 2.5-litre engine and extended the coupé's career until the end of production. In total, more than 151,000 units were built: a decisive commercial success for Porsche.

Long underrated, the 924 has now been fully rehabilitated: its timeless lines, remarkable chassis balance and affordable upkeep make it a sought-after classic and an ideal gateway into the Porsche world.
