Fitting tips for silicone hoses

Mespiecesauto has been making custom silicone hoses for almost 20 ans. As far back as 2009, we were asked by the magazine GTI-Tech to give some fitting tips. Here they are:

Degrease the area where the hose attaches.
If the hose is hard to fit, do not use penetrating oil. Prefer a tiny bit of washing-up liquid, which makes insertion easier. As it dries, it makes the hose grip even more.
Use trunnion (rolled-edge) clamps : their flared edge prevents biting into the elastomer, their grip is stronger and the load is better distributed.
Avoid any sharp object near the silicone hoses: they can be quickly damaged by a cutter-type blade.

It is generally important to replace your radiator to ensure optimal thermal efficiency and avoid contaminating the new hoses with sludge or other debris present in the coolant. Discover our aluminium R21 Turbo radiator.
