High-performance silicone hoses – Durability and long life

Silicone is an elastomer that does not suffer the ageing that natural or synthetic rubber does. It withstands the high temperatures of engine bays, up to more than 200 °C.

These hoses will give you a perfect seal for many years. We make them from the original tooling and have been selling them for almost 20 years.

Number of plies and fitting constraints

The thickness, expressed as a number of plies, depends on the inside diameter and can range from 3 to 5 plies.

It is impossible to make a 4-ply hose for a 10 mm inside diameter:

• The outside diameter would become too large, making fitting difficult or even impossible.
• The clamping force needed for a good seal could damage the connection area.

Why keep the glossy finish?

Unlike the current fashion for matt silicone hoses, Mespiecesauto has chosen to keep the gloss layer. This finish is in fact a protective layer.

Matt hoses have existed for a long time, but they were originally made that way because the process for adding this top layer had not yet been mastered.

The advantages of the glossy top layer:

• Masks the stair-stepping effect of the silicone.
• Protects the hose and seals porosity.
• Makes cleaning easier.
• Improves durability.

Note that the heat and conditions in the engine bay will quickly dull a so-called glossy hose. There is therefore no advantage in removing this protective layer.
