Mespiecesauto GS cast-iron cylinder liners: proven reliability since 2007

In 2007, Mespiecesauto set itself the challenge of producing truly reliable GS cast-iron cylinder liners. At the time, nearly 20 years ago, so-called “GS cast iron” liners prone to cracking were common. The advertised standard was often GS800, but after several laboratory tests, it became clear that these parts were not compliant.

Why is GS800 rarely relevant for a thick cylinder liner?

Our audits with various foundries confirmed that it is highly unlikely to certify GS800 on a cylinder liner of this thickness. The classification distinguishes several grades (GS600 / GS700 / GS800), each associated with a specific metallurgical matrix. For GS800, the matrix must be 100% pearlitic, which requires fast and homogeneous cooling. However, on a thick cylinder liner casting, the thermal gradient between the outside and the inside prevents this criterion from being achieved at 100%.

Our technical choice: GS700 grade

This is why Mespiecesauto introduced the GS700 grade. This grade allows a slight tolerance margin (approx. 5%) in the matrix while guaranteeing the mechanical strength required for a thick cylinder liner, with no compromise on durability.
