Installation advice – Crankshaft bearing shells

  1. Before installation, carry out a complete metrology check of your R5 Alpine / R5 Alpine Turbo engine (see the metrology sheet).
  2. Degreasing: carefully clean the housings as well as the bearing shells. For example, use a brake cleaner, then dry thoroughly.
  3. Dry installation: the shells must be fitted dry in their housings. Do not oil the back of the bearing shell.
  4. Lubrication: lubricate only the sliding surface of the bearing shell. Prefer using a silicone brush rather than an oil can, to avoid any scratches in case of an accidental movement.
  5. Bearing caps: strictly respect the order and orientation of the caps, then tighten according to the manufacturer’s specified torque/angle values.
  6. Rotation check: after tightening, rotate the crankshaft; it must turn freely, without any hard spot. If this is not the case, loosen one cap at a time and try rotating the crankshaft after each loosening step to identify the cap preventing rotation.
